Tasker for Droid

Monday, August 9, 2010 7:00

I wake up in the morning, do my morning routine and leave for work. At the end of my block, my phone tells me that it’s turning on bluetooth and gps for me. And it does.

I get within a half mile of work in the morning and my phone tells me to have a great day and that it’s turning down the ringer and turning off gps. But if I go to the office off-hours, it doesn’t bother because there is no one else there that the ringer could bother. I like it that way.

If I go to court, my phone tells me it’s going into silent mode, and it does.

When I open maps or navigation, my gps turns on and when I close them, my gps turns off. GPS is a battery hog so that works out well.

When I come home, my phone tells me that it’s turning all…

How to Remove Antivirus Soft Malware

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 9:54
Posted in category Geek, How Tos

Antivirus Soft is devil spawn. My computer is protected to the teeth and somehow it still managed to not only sneak onto my computer via just going to a website (not opening or clicking anything… and not even a porn site - because that might have been more worth it) and when I noticed it, my spyware and virus programs didn’t recognize it.

Antivirus Soft masquerades as anti virus software - but it’s malware. As part of it’s masquerade, it has a little green shield that appears in your system tray and it pops up ‘virus warnings’ every few seconds and blocks other applications from running - especially the anti spyware/malware/virus software that you immediately run in order to get rid of it - and even Task Manager.

There are other sites with removal instructions on them - but the recommended malware software didn’t find it, no one addressed the fact…

Computer Profile Won’t See or Browse Workgroup Computers in WinXP

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 18:16

Problem : There are several computers in Carrie Land. Two of them had an argument today. One is a desktop, the other is a laptop. I reloaded the laptop and it said “NAY… I will NOT see the workgroup.” Only ONE of the new profiles on the laptop (exact same profiles as pre-reload) would see the workgroup. So for instance, the ‘Carrie’ profile could see the workgroup and the ‘kids’ profile could not. The desktop could see the laptop in the workgroup and browse it’s shares. I could use ‘run’ and open desktop shares from the laptop… just couldn’t see the workgroup computers and browse them.

I’m using : WinXP Pro, DHCP and Advanced file sharing.

All of this, of course, was working before the reload.

I tried every possible solution I could find. I took all of the FindNode’s out of the registry, deleted the workgroup and recreated it with a different…

How to Re-Install Windows XP Without a CD-ROM drive

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 11:59
Posted in category Geek, How Tos

This works under the following conditions :

  • You have a working computer that you want to reload but it doesn’t have a (working) CD-ROM drive
  • You have a working computer with a working CD-ROM
  • These computers are on a network together and can share files

In my case, I have a REALLY old (9 years?) laptop that I let visitors use that needed to be reloaded. It’s dying piece by piece and the CD-ROM was one of the first to go.

You will need : Your Windows XP CD and key (this is not a hack for WinXP), MagicISO, Daemon Tools Lite

  1. Put your WinXP cd into the working computer’s CD-ROM.
  2. Download MagicISO onto the computer with the working CD-ROM. Using MagicISO, create an ISO file from the CD. An ISO file is an image of the CD… or a duplicate copy. In MagicISO, click ‘tools’ and ‘make ISO from CD’.
  3. Copy the new ISO file from the…

How to Get Free YoCash (Safely)

I have quickly become addicted to yoville. Yay for no strings attached home decorating and attention to tiny miniature little perfect pieces of minutia! However, there isn’t a whole lot you can do in yoville without yocash or yocoins.

Yoville is a game application available on at least myspace and facebook (maybe others?) in which the player can dress their character, buy houses and furnish them and otherwise socialize with other characters. In line with other social networking site applications, it’s not a really feature rich game but it’s fun if you’re into that sort of thing.

If you can get yocash, you can convert it into yocoins at the bank - which is what most items in the stores are priced in. But how do you get yocash? Here is how to build your daily store of yocash for free or little cost.

  • Visit the factory every six hours to…

Creating Unique Site Sections Using Wordpress

You want : all or some of your top level categories to be separate ‘parts’ of your site and to be unique from each other. OR… your site displays it’s posts on separate domains or sub domains and needs each site to be unique.

Solution : Using wordpress templates, you can give each ‘part’ of your site an entirely unique look, feel and functionality.

  1. First, go into your wordpress admin and refine your categories by adding descriptions to each, polishing the category names and matching the slug to the name. Name your top level categories the name that you want to name that ‘part’ of your site.
  2. Next make your permalink structure intuitive by making it domain/category/subcategory/etc/post name
  3. In your template directory, create a custom header, sidebar and footer file for each ‘part of your site’. This doesn’t have to be done for each and every category… only the ‘parts’ of the site…

Neopets Strategy : How To Get Rich In Neopets

Tuesday, May 5, 2009 13:57

So you’ve got your neopets account and you want to buy cool stuff only to find out that you don’t have enough neopoints. Contrary to popular belief, although there are some borderline things you can do like create multiple accounts, there are no L33t C#3@+z (elite cheats) or hacks that work with neopets. That said, there are some great ways to gain more rather than fewer neopoints and see your np balance grow. Here’s 9 of them.

  1. Open a shop. Keep it small until you have the items to fill up a bigger one.
Every time you earn or win an item that your pets can’t use, add it to your shop.
  2. Buy from other users and resell at higher prices in your shop. Use the shop wizard to find items in other people’s shops. The catch is, you have to have the exact item name to really get a good search result so…

How to Switch Between Using Outlook and Palm Desktop Sync Conduits

Saturday, November 15, 2008 15:23
Posted in category How Tos, palm centro

I just got a new centro and rather than syncing between outlook and my centro, I want to use an application that will require that I sync between Palm Desktop and my centro.

To do this, you need to have the proper sync conduits. If you right click your Sync manager on your system tray (loer right hand corner of your screen) and click ‘custom’, you will see a list of items that are synchronized each time you hot sync. These are called conduits. In my case, I had Outlook conduits but no Palm Desktop conduits.

If you remember, way back when you set up the software, you were asked if you want to use outlook or Palm Desktop. What a fateful decision! There is no way to change this setting inside the software once it’s set.

However, pop your cd in, click install and choose the option to ‘repair’. It…

How to Use MP3 files as Ringtones on the Palm Centro

Saturday, November 15, 2008 12:51
Posted in category How Tos, palm centro

There are two ways to get your phone to play your favorite mp3 as a ringtone. You can either use email to get the mp3 to your phone or you can copy the mp3 directly to your memory card. Then you use the blazer internet browser to get the mp3 into a ringtone.

By Email

This technique is by far the easiest but requires internet access on your phone. Although centro comes internet ready, you must have signed up for data service with your provider.

  1. Save your mp3 ringtone to your computer and email it to yourself.
  2. Check your email on your palm. Click on the link to the attachement.
  3. Your palm will prompt you with a number of options, one of which is to save it as a ringtone. Follow the prompts.

By Memory Card

The Palm Centro uses Micro SD memory Card. For this method, you will need a SD card reader for your…
