Easy Chocolate Syrup Recipe (Chocolate Sauce)
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 19:21The theme lately has been making stuff with what we have. If I’m going to buy the ice cream, I need to not buy the syrup. So I decided to make it! This is cobbled together from various sources and is absolutely delicious over ice cream. I’m not sure I will buy chocolate sauce again. :)
Ingredients
1 cup milk (I used reduced fat - I’m sure other kinds will work too)
6 T sugar
1 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla
Heat the milk at medium heat, ALMOST to a simmer. Pour the chocolate chips in a little bit at a time, constantly stirring. When all of the chocolate chips are in, stir until all lumps of chocolate are completely melted. Add sugar and vanilla to taste. Store refrigerated, in a sealed container.

Pork With Apples and Plum Wine Sauce
Saturday, May 30, 2009 16:45This is a modified version of a much ritzier recipe that I was able to make with common ingredients that I had on hand. Everybody has pork chops now and again (I just happened to have a bottle of plum wine kickin’ it in the cabinet that I never used) and this is just a different way to make them.
It was absolutely kid-approved delicious with a much more extravagant taste than most of our meals. It is super cheap to make when you calculate the ingredients so it’s great on a budget AND it’s really, surprisingly quick.
Total prep time : 10 minutes
Total cook time : 15 minutes
Ingredients:
2 thick cut pork chops sliced into 1/4 inch thick slices
1/2 cup flour seasoned with salt and pepper
1 1/2 tblspn. Cooking oil
1 tsp. Butter
1/3 tsp. Garlic, minced
4 ozs. Plum Wine (you can get it at most liqueur stores)
1/2 cup Cream
1/2 tsp. Parsley, chopped

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe (for worms and fleas)
Sunday, April 12, 2009 7:48I had a dream about baking dog treats yesterday and it was one of those dreams that just hung on and hung on all day. So I finally gathered up the boyfriend and walked to the store to get some rice flour and came home and baked them.
There are actually tons of books of recipes for dog treats and dog food and it’s all pretty easy to make. After making these and seeing how nuts the dogs went for them, I think it would be lots of fun to grab a book and pick a few more out. I would imagine there would be cool stuff one could do with peanut butter, cheese and meat.
This recipe is for human grade, completely natural home made dog biscuits. Dogs (and some cats) ADORE them, according to my 6 furry beasts of the barking and meowing varieties. Tobi followed me around relentlessly for about a…

Chai Liqueur Recipe
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 9:20Unlike Voyant, this recipe will not yield a cream liqueur. This recipe makes a strongly flavored, sweet vanilla chai liqueur that is meant to be mixed with cream and/or other liquors. Great as a warm drink - nuke a half mug of milk and add liqueur. Great served over ice with cream or over ice cream.
You Need :
400ml of vodka (entire completed recipe yields 750ml)
4t of chai tea mix (I use Carriosities)
2 cups of sugar
2T vanilla extract
1 cup water
- If you’re using a bagged tea, break the bags open to measure. Pour the herb and tea leaf mixture directly into the vodka.
- Allow it to soak for 10-12 hours. Shake it up every few hours.
- Filter out the solids by pouring it through a strainer or coffee filter.
- Bring the water to a boil and then add the sugar and vanilla
- When the sugar is completely dissolved, remove it from heat and allow it…
All Natural Flea Remedy for Cats
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 10:21I’m just full of all natural remedies today. Excuse me while I cough this out of my system. Then we’ll go back to regularly scheduled synthetic fun.
I found the ingredients on the back of a widely sold all natural product. I did some digging and used the end result on my own animals when one of them unwittingly brought in fleas.
5 drops each of the following essential oils :
lavender
peppermint
lemon
cinnamon
clove
Let it sit for 24 hours and then mix with 1 of the following :
8 oz of cat shampoo for a flea shampoo
4 oz distilled alcohol and 4 oz water for a flea spray
4 oz carrier oil for a skin oil
a few drops at a time with 8 oz arrowroot powder or cornstarch for a powder
Spot check on your animal for sensitivity before you use any of the applications on their skin.

All Natural Nail Oil Recipe
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 9:52Anti Fungal, extra healing and moisturizing. Great for hands that actually… you know… do work. Would be great for toenails on feet that tend to be dry and/or get fungus.
2 ml Neem Seed Oil - don’t let the name fool you. It’s more like a butter and it has a really strong nutty scent that is not pleasant. An icee straw works great to scoop it. (moisturizing, anti fungal, healing, helps elasticity)
3 ml Vitamin E Oil (healing)
1 ml tea tree oil (healing, anti-microbial)
1 ml lavender oil (more to help counteract the smell of the neem seed oil than anything)
2 ml grapefruit seed oil
1) Mix it all up
2) Fill to 1 ounce with favorite carrier oil and shake
Paint it onto each nail and the surrounding area with a QTip and allow it to absorb. Your nails and cuticles will soak it up in 10-15 minutes. Nails are left healthy…

All Natural Toner Recipe
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 9:40… for REALLY sensitive skin that tends toward redness and breakouts
1) 6 oz of cold water and two green tea bags. Combine. Nuke for 2 minutes, steep/cool for 10 more minutes.
2) 10 drops each of tea tree (anti-bacterial), lavender (calming), helichrysum (healing, good for redness or discoloration) essential oils - mix with - 2 ml polysorbate 80 (polysorbate is totally optional. It makes the oils mix with the water. If you dont use it, you’ll have to shake your toner before you use it every time. Polysorbate 80 sounds chemically but fwiw, it’s derived from fruit. Its available lots of places online. My local oils maven turned me on to it and I was skeptical cuz it sounds so.. manufactured.. but it’s worth it.)
3) Pour the green tea over the essential oils mix in a glass bottle and shake.
It turns out looking kinda murky yellowish green. If you can get…

Low Cal Yogurt and Coffee Breakfast
Tuesday, April 3, 2007 10:10I couldn’t find fat free, low cal fruit yogurt with actual fruit in it that didn’t taste like ass or cost an arm and a leg so I make my own.
I buy frozen strawberries and black cherries. They are usually cheaper frozen and I don’t eat them fast enough to buy them fresh. I divide them up into freezer bags and thaw them out as I need them. The black cherries are higher in calorie content and a lot sweeter - so they make a nice dessert rather than an every day thing. I buy the biggest container of yogurt I can, because it’s cheaper that way. Then I scoop out what I need at each serving. If I’m making yogurt for work or school that week, I make a big batch and scoop it into small containers and put them in the fridge.
1/2 cup strawberries - 25…
