ponderethereal.com has been alive and kicking since 2001. Not too long ago, I added advertising to the site which has generated a small amount towards supporting the site. Otherwise, the site has been supported out of pocket.

Ponderethereal A La Aspie has provided information and support for countless numbers of parents of kids with Asperger’s Syndrome and adults like me with Asperger’s Syndrome and Karmic Konsumer enjoys regular reports of people finding valuable information about products and service providers on a daily basis.

To be candid, in September, I was assaulted by my husband and sustained injuries that made me unable to work. That on top of the divorce (of COURSE I divorced him!) has left me in dire financial straights. I am no longer able to financially support the site on my own.

I updated to WP 2.6.3 today. And new themes and plugins abound. Clicky clicky. You go ahead… I’ll wait. See? It’s level of functionality is actually attractive. I never noticed, for instance, that the months of the year made a really pretty wavy pattern down the page when you list 7 years of them. It’s like a conspiracy of beauty beginning when the months were named.

Private posts don’t work… I mean… they WORK in the strictest sense of the word… in that they are all PRIVATE. But the levels thing that used to let some people see them and not others isnt working so no one can see them. Baby steps.

I’m still, also, obviously, getting the theme together. I decided to go with the practical stuff first… like say… oh… working php. Once I get that hammered out, I’ll make it pretty.

Novel concept that it is, the nifty orange RSS buttons in the left nav ACTUALLY. WORK. NOW. I got something like 3000 rss hits last week so surely someone cares about my RSS buttons.

If you read this via livejournal, you will notice that my username has changed to ‘ponderethereal’. Please forget you ever saw the old user name. Seriously. Otherwise, when it self destructs, it will explode your brain.

The front page of the main blog now only contains posts that do not belong in A La Aspie, Beyond the Surface or Karmic Konsumer. You can see the last few posts in those blogs from the handy dandy new blurbs in the left nav. If you read this from livejournal, you don’t need to worry about all of that very confusing gobbeldy gook.. you’ll just see IT ALL. MOO HA HA.

I am going to be a guest blogger on a…

That’s longer than I’ve been in any relationship without breaking up. That’s longer than I’ve lived in any one place and almost as long as I lived in once city. That’s almost as old as my son and almost a QUARTER OF MY LIFE.

What am I talking about, dear readers? But my bloggiversary, of course. It is now January of 2008 and I have been blogging since January of 2001. Since before it was cool, hip or trendy. Since the time when I said the word ‘blog’ out loud and everyone looked at me as if I had just suggested that the earth was really a giant cube.

My blog… is my blog. And well. It does bloggy things. Like trigger nasty hate emails and wonderful, friendly OMGTHANKYOU emails. It is also the center around which my universe spins. I KID. (but do I?) (hah.. I do.) (?) (.) (seriously.)

This year, it served up…

There were some issues with private post access… so even if you had access, some private posts weren’t showing up. So category archives might look like they only had a couple of posts… that sort of thing. It’s fixed.

That is all.

I upgraded to the latest and greatest version today. There is some weirdness getting to archives that I’m trying to track down but otherwise(this should be fixed… it was only on when you were on a date archive trying to get to a category archive.) It was painless. The new version isn’t a whole lot different but I got some pretty snazzy new ajax plugins that I’m playing with. I’m such a nerd.

About once a year, I go - oops! I should make that stuff private! And it’s that time of year again. Because some of the stuff I post about is sensitive to me and my life, In ‘05, this blog switched to semi-private. That means that although some posts will show up for everyone even if they aren’t logged in, some posts are private and only show up for people who are logged in.

If you have access to private entries already, just log in and you will see the private entries mixed in with the public ones (indicated by ‘Private’ in the title). Only the non-private posts are cross posted to LJ.

I’ve been blogging for 6 years now. I do it cuz I love it. Website design is fun for me. Having a website is fulfilling. They don’t pee on the carpet and they don’t take up lots of storage space in the garage. And so… with this shift in my life away from things I DONT want to do professionally and into things I DO want to do professionally, professional blogging is one of the things moving in.

Pro blogging doesnt mean I get any better at doing it, unfortunately. But it does mean that I will be cleaning up ’round here, taking a little extra time to make sure I blog and blog well and adding some ads to help bring in some cash. Nothing intrusive, hopefully, and definitely stuff that I’m interested in - so if you’re a reader, potentially you will be interested in it too.

I’ve started the long journey of overhauling the site to be more visitor friendly.

• Slowly, old pages are being integrated into the blog.
• I deleted over 400 spam comments just today. Therefore, un-logged in people will now be able to comment again, as that obviously wasn’t stopping them ANRyan there is a new captcha spam thingy featuring the words ‘psycho’, ‘hose’ and ‘beast’. You should leave comments just to see if you can get them all.
• I’m adding ads. I won’t go overboard. I just need to pay the bills, people. They should be something you are interested in, at least.
• I’m making a more concerted effort to feature the sub blogs. Most people can’t handle reading about Asperger’s Syndrome ANRyan witchcraft ANRyan reviews ANRyan mommyhood all in one blog.
