Being psychic is a double edged sword.

The Pros :

• I know what is going to happen in most situations before it happens.
• People pay money to talk to me because I know what is going to happen in most situations before it happens.
• I’m a great friend to have because I talk freely and openly about what is going to happen because I know what is going to happen in most situations before it happens.

The Cons :

• I have friends who pump me for information a lot because I’m their friend and because I know what is going to happen in most situations before it happens.
• I have friends who will go on about how psychic I am and then when I say something they don’t want to hear (because I know what is going to happen in most situations before it happens) they stick their fingers knuckle deep in their proverbial ears…

I’ve done lots of readings for lots of people over the last year. Tonight was the first time that a person asked me ‘what can I do to change that?’. It was refreshing.

In a previous post about psychic frauds, I mentioned briefly one fraud in which the psychic asks a bunch of questions. I got a phone call from a lady last week complaining about a reader here at the shop and one of her complaints was that the reader asked a bunch of questions. In talking about it later, I really don’t think that some people realize how subtle that can be sometimes.

From the moment you meet someone for the very first time, you are both collecting information about each other. It’s what we do as humans. We take in things with our senses and we process it. So when you walk into the shop and the psychic asks how you are doing and you respond, there is already a little bit of information exchanged. Now, of course, unless you are extraordinarily talkative, probably not A LOT of information was given away…

One of the reasons that it is so difficult for me to really embrace calling myself ‘psychic’ is the stigma that goes along with it. Psychics are often considered frauds without a second thought. I have to admit, I have even been to a few less than convincing ‘psychics’. Today, for instance, I happened across a pet psychic on a radio show. As I listened, I noticed her using some really subtle techniques to make the information she gave seem more genuine than it really was. She had a few moments when she was really on a roll and gave some really good readings… but all in all, from what I could tell, out of a one hour show, legitimate psychism accounted for less than 15 minutes.

It is my belief that we are all ‘psychic’. I really hate the word psychic. It brings to mind all sorts of images, most of which involve fraud. We all get impressions or have intuition or have prophetic dreams now and then. That is being psychic. That intuition, prophetic dreaming, gut instinct or impression is probably a tiny piece of a long line of constant impressions, intuition, gut instinct or prophetic dreams. In a ‘normal person’, it is only every so often that it breaks the surface and gets to the forefront of your concious mind long enough to be noticed.

well the other day, I dropped Emma off at school.. about a week and a half ago, maybe? And as I was getting on to the interstate to go to work, over on the right hand side, there was a construction area on the overpass. There was an orange sign that said 'power lines overhead' in the constrution zone.

Late last night, Ryan and I went to the mall. We were going to go see a late movie and we were wasting time before it started. He went in to a store to pee and I sat outside on the bench to wait for him. I looked down and there was a stem of small purple flowers laying on the ground next to me. Just as perfect as could be.

This is the Pagan new year. I dont consider myself Pagan anymore but I do consider tonight a death of the old year. I look back over my year and I see a struggle.
