5 Ways to Scratch A Tattoo that Itches - Without Scratching

I got some work on my tattoo done recently and one thing I think I must have forgotten is how much it itches as it heals! And, of course, you aren’t supposed to scratch it because it’s essentially a wound and you could damage the tender, healing skin. So, here are some ways I came up with to stop the itch :

  1. Take a shower and let the shower spray hit it. At first, it seems to make it itch worse but then it starts to desensitize it, making the itch go away. You shouldn’t use the shower setting that blasts it… just the gentle normal shower. And don’t SOAK it… just run it under the shower till it stops itching. Use warm water.. but not scalding.
  2. While you’re in the shower, use a mild antimicrobial soap on it like Provon. Rub it in gentle circles over the whole tattoo and…

I have a tattoo on my lower back. I got it right after I turned 19. I drew it. An old guy who smoked too much weed and had a shaky hand tattooed it while my two best friends and my boyfriend, at the time looked on. I think I buried my face in my sweatshirt through the whole thing. I’ve never regretted that tattoo - but for a long time, I’ve really regretted that he did such a crap job on it. It faded really badly and his shaky-ass lines became obvious as years wore on. I’ve been getting the itch to get it redone for a while and yesterday, I finally did.

I don’t remember it hurting that much. Or maybe I’m just an old lady now and am therefore a wuss. I got REALLY light headed twice and he had to stop to let me lay down.…

Mission Pierce…

… was a success. I didn’t scream and Ethan is already planning his next one(s).

The aftercare instructions for an oral piercing take on a whole new significance when there are 8 year old listening ears near by. There were lots of wide eyed significant nods and ‘you knows’ thrown in to make sure I truly understood that I should not give anyone really messy head and then gargle with it for a really long while because THE LINE TO PARTICIPATE WAS ALREADY FORMING.

Stop with the mental images already.

Pictures behind the cut. Of the piercings… not the head.

Gen X Momma

Me and I were sitting talking about piercing yesterday while Ethan listened in and I wondered aloud at how cool it is for kids his age to have moms who get pierced and get tattoos. When I was his age, piercing just wasn’t as widely accepted as it is now. Indigenous cultures aside, when I was his age, no one did it. Now, anyone is likely to have a stud or ring somewhere unexpected.

I’m going to take him to get his ears pierced for Christmas (with a needle in a piercing shop, not with a gun at the mall). He’s wanted them pierced for a couple of years. He’s accustomed to all of my piercings and all of his dad’s and Ryan has his ears pierced and so piercings are just normal to him - which I think is way cool. Me getting my piercing is a good opportunity…

Church of Steel

Me was feeling down this weekend and how else to sooth a girl’s broken heart than to go get more holes punched in ya? :) So she and I partook in a couple more piercings.

I’ve only had one professional piercing, ever and it was my septum when I was young and stupid and didn’t care about pain - so I really didn’t know what to expect and I was a little nervous - although excited because I’d wanted to get this piercing for a long time. :) Me chose Church of Steel in San Diego which she had heard good things about.

I was driving home from dropping Angel off at the vet and things just kept running though my head.. ;) Music of note these days.. Destiny’s Child.. they just keep coming out with bad ass music.. their latest, Survivor is just tha bomb ;) I wanna hear it remixed into jungle :) Arrowsmith’s (sp?) latest song - Jaded is tha bomb too :)

I had a dream about this guy Clint, one of DH’s friends (that I really hate) last night. It was an odd dream though. In the dream we seemed to get along in a competitive sort of way.. something about a fish tank and they were hiding under the rocks in the fish tank shooting people.. or pretending to.. only, he really shot me.. oh, I do so love him.. rolleyes.. he called just a second ago asking for my DH.. I really dislike him.. even his…
