Regardless of Intent
Sunday, September 16, 2007 20:59Intent has become a cop out among newagers and witchkin alike. Along the lines of my previous post about responsibility, I’d have to say that one thing that rankles me is to hear someone say, in response to hearing that what they are doing might not be wise or that they might have caused something negative that happened to someone else, that what really matters is the intent.
Psha… Whatevah.
Intent doesn’t matter one iota, really. It’s your intent that builds the motion and past that, the motion will create a series of reactions that the originator is responsible for regardless of intent. Focus your intent to make sure that your action is completely as on-target as possible before you let fly whatever stone you’re tossing into the pool. But once that stone leaves your hand, intent has NOTHING to do with it. It’s going to hit the water and make ripples based upon the trajectory and force with which it was thrown - which hopefully, your intent guided. Intent matters right up until the very moment at which you say or do the thing you were considering. Then, it is loosed and intention is meaningless.
If you have ever caused a horrible result with the best of intent and then had to apologize later with “I didn’t mean that to happen.”, you have seen it in action. You didnt have the INTENT for something bad to happen.. but the end result was bad and you felt responsibility for it. Sometimes though, when someone feels responsibility for something that is way too big for them to fit into their reasoning, they might say something like ‘oh well, my intent was in the right place.’ THATS what bugs the shit out of me.
Magick and spirituality do not defy logic and common sense. You can follow a chain of events from one to the next and find reason and response for each action.
Saying that your intent disconnects you from that chain and therefore removes your responsibility defies all logic and is hereforewith considered fucking ridiculous.
Intent and the value thereof is subjective.
The universe does not ‘care’ or ‘decide’ or ‘judge’. It simply is.
Natural reaction occurs regardless of intent. If you can’t handle the consequences, even if they are unforeseen, don’t do it. Live from your truest heart every moment of every day. Say what you mean, mean what you say. Walk the walk. Live like you don’t want to regret a single thing when you die. THEN your actions will ALWAYS follow your intent because you won’t be kidding yourself about your intent and all of your selves will be in unison and manifestation will occur in line with your intent and you’ll never have to say ‘but… my intent… ‘.
