The Sign
Friday, December 12, 2008 17:55At the ripe old age of 15, we were club hopping 4 nights a week. We’d walk from Beale Street to Mongo’s and back again then drink our little 15 year old asses off till we couldn’t stand up. Jail bait, anyone? Good times. There is a group of songs that will be stamped into my head for all eternity as ‘Mongos Songs’ and this one is totally one of those. It’s one of those songs that can recall an entire era of one’s life. I think I still have the cd somewhere.
I saw the video for the first time today and omg, did I ever do the ‘wow, I’m old’ thing. How dated. The cut out gymnasts and pretentious hand motions are great. And the sulky guy lookin’ tough. Random artsy roses and the Ace of Base symbol all avant garde, yo. Hah.
I saw it today, flipping through channels and I stopped, sang along, reminisced - and realized that it has a whole new meaning now. Little did I know at the sweet innocent (hah) age of 15 that I’d meet a boy 6 months later that’d give it a whole new meaning 14 years later.
Music is timeless. Videos, not so much.
I got a new life
You would hardly recognize me
I’m so glad
How can a person like me care for you
Why do I bother
When you’re not the one for me
Is enough enough
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No ones gonna drag you up
To get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong
Under the pale moon
For so many years Ive wondered
Who you are
How can a person like you bring me joy
Under the pale moon
Where I see a lot of stars
Is enough enough
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No ones gonna drag you up
To get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong
I saw the sign and it opened up my mind
And I am happy now
Living without you
Ive left you all alone
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
No ones gonna drag you up
To get into the light where you belong
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes
I saw the sign
