Logo
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 13:33I flipped the channel last night to logo and watched a few episodes of Trans-generation. I dig the show. Although I can’t relate to it on a personal level as I’m sure it was intended, it was so insanely interesting to follow real people going through the process leading up to sexual reassignment surgery.
Even more wonderful, for me was to see ads and clip between shows that are non-straight oriented. A WHOLE gay channel that doesnt center around gay MEN! It includes me! I mean, granted… television and movies have been a little more open in the last 5 years or so.. Will and Grace, Queer as Folk and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy are programs that became ‘mainstream’ that centered around homosexuality. But all of those people are MEN. The world is ok with two women making out so it’s not so racy to portray that on television.. remember Ellen’s televised kiss? It happened, the world gasped and then moved on… but now two men together.. that remained so taboo.. so those were the programs that got the ratings so those were the programs that were shown.
It’s like witchcraft and the media. You see lots about the buning times and you see lots of over-dramatized stuff.. but what if suddenly there was an occult channel with Feri programming and commercials.. or Gardenarian.. or new age.. or whatever you are.
And here we are with Logo now. Finally I see advertising that isnt just centered around gay men. Finally, I see clips that arent just gay MEN. Finally, there is something on television that I can RELATE to where my sexuality is concerned. Sure, the weren’t bisexual bits.. but there were lesbians and there were ads that were all inclusive. I never thought I’d be so fucking happy to see ads.
I felt like I finally found television for me. Sure, I still love Will and Grace and I love a bunch of non-sexuality-oriented programing.. but for a couple of hours, I indulged in entertainment I could really relate to. ‘Twas nice.
